MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK BREATHING 3 min Expectation reconcilation Dialog: What do you expect, and what does the client expect? Is there anywere I can’t place my hands? Please tell me, if you want me to remove my hands Make sure that the client is comfortable and feels safe Look at the clients facial expressions Eyes Mouth Color Look at the chest and abdomin Is the client calm or hyperventilating? MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK

MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK BREATHING EXERCISE 2: Find a place to stand, in the room where you feel comfortable. Find a spot in the room to look at, or close your eyes Notice your breathing Observe where your breath is placed MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK

MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK BREATHING EXERCISE 3: Find a partner Choose an A and a B A start as the client - B as the therapist. B asks A if there is anywhere on the body, they don’t want to be touched. Remember to let the other know, that they can say stop at any time, if they feel uncomfortable. A and B switch roles (start from the beginning) Examples of places to place your hands: Upper body Top of the chest Abdomin (stomach) Back Shoulders Talk with your partner: 1 minute each (When finished) MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK

MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK BREATHING Working alliance: Making a room that feels safe for the client and the therapist Expectation reconcilation Through open dialog Letting the client know, that they can say ”stop” without being disrespectful  letting you as a therapist trust that the client will say ”stop”, if needed. Respecting boundaries - Asking the client if there is anywhere, they do not want you to place your hands MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK

MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK BREATHING Why do breathing exercises? Help the client to be aware of tensions Work as a grounding exercise/a way to get connected Body-awareness Be aware of: Some clients might find it difficult to work with their breathing, which can be caused by a biological, psycological or social factor. Biological: Muscle tension (hyper/hypo), so that the breath is fixed in either the abdomin or chest. Psycological: Feeling that the breath is ”too deep” and is filled with emotions Social: Tucking in your tummy (Lowen, http://alexanderlowenfoundation.com/breathing.html) MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK

BREATHING Physiocal contact Comfort Oxytocin up – heart rate down Tactile sense Guerrero says: “We feel more connected to someone if they tough us” Mother-child relationship Matthew Hertenstein demonstrated that we have an innate ability to decode emotions via tough alone Interact with a client Risk; over-the-top. Different cultures and individuals have different tolerance levels for tough Better sleep, reduced iriitability and increased sociability https://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/201303/the-power-touch MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK

MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK BREATHING More ways to work with breathing …. (danish text) Physicial movement processes goes close together with the inner psychodynamic processes and with the communicative connections to the world(Houmark). Quote from Rudolf Laban: ”Most people knows that the body moves in the room, but few people think that there is a room which moves inside the body” ”The goal is through precence in the breathing movement to combine the room inside with the room outside(Houmark).” The movement of the breath in the body is used as a support of the movement of the body in space.  - Like the other day in wat su .. Exercises Growing inwards and outwards, making the room inside smaller and bigger. Growing longer and shorter, broader and thinner, rounder and flatter. - Inspired by Rudolf Laban, 3 body axes. Noticing how the relation to the surroundings moves together with the movement of your breath. Inspiration support movement/awareness towards the sorroundings and expiration movement/awareness moving back to the center. MAJA, ANNIKA, JULIA AND ANN-SOFIE – DENMARK
