Intervals on a Timeline When creating a timeline, the interval or number of years between each date must be equal. This interval will vary depending on the length of the time period that the timeline covers. An easy way to think about the interval being used on a timeline is "What are we counting by?” On this timeline, there are 10 years between each date on the timeline, therefore the interval is 10 years. You can also think of it as "We're counting by 10 years."

English face Black Death Plague How to calculate how many years ago an event took place in A.D.? Take the larger A.D. date and subtract the smaller A.D. date to determine how long ago this event occurred. Example: A.D. 1348 English face Black Death Plague A.D. 1 Christ was Born A.D. 2016 Today

Try these with your partner: A.D. 1 Christ was Born A.D. 375 Hun’s Invade Europe A.D. 2016 Today A.D. 1 Christ was Born A.D. 771 Arabs arrive in Spain A.D. 2016 Today

The Building of the Great Pyramids How to calculate how many years ago an event took place in B.C.? Add the B.C. date to the current A.D to determine the answer. Examples: A.D. 2016 Today 3,000 B.C The Building of the Great Pyramids A.D. 1 Christ was born

Try these with your partner: A.D. 2016 Today A.D. 1 Christ was born 753 B.C. Building of Rome 332 B.C. Egypt is conquered A.D. 2016 Today A.D. 1 Christ was born

How to calculate how many years are between two A.D. dates. Subtract the smaller A.D. date from the larger A.D. date. A.D. 1945 End of WWII A.D. 1975 End of Vietnam Conflict

224 B.C. Start of construction on the Great Wall of China How to calculate how many years are between two B.C. dates Subtract the smaller B.C. date from the larger B.C. date. 773 B.C. First Olympiad in Greece 224 B.C. Start of construction on the Great Wall of China
