Autobiography An account of a person’s life, written by that person.

Biography An account of someone’s life written by someone else

Auto- Prefix Meaning self/same

Prefix A word, letter, or number placed before another Modifies a term’s meaning

suffix A morpheme (sound/part of a word) added at the end of another word to modify meaning

Conflict (in literature) any struggle between opposing forces. Usually, the main character struggles against some other force. This type of conflict is what drives each and every story

Suspense Characterized by anticipation Occurs when the audience is unsure of what will happen next in a story, anticipating an upcoming event, or when the outcome is uncertain

Dialogue The lines spoken by a character of characters in a play, essay, story, or novel Especially a conversation between two characters

Irony The use of words to convey a meaning that is opposite of its literal meaning Example: The irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend

Cause and Effect A relationship between actions or events that result in another action or event Example: Cause: I punched a wall. Effect: I broke my hand.
