Shared Accountability Student learning should be the number one priority of the education system. Educators should be held to the highest professional standards and be accountable for student learning. Accountability for student learning rests in the local school district. Educators’ experiences and voices are essential to crafting effective education policy. Unfunded state mandates and regulations limit school effectiveness. - Illinois Vision 20/20 Policy Brief This is the summary of the guiding principles that helped generate the Vision 20/20 policy position on shared accountability.

A District Decides In 2013, Bloomingdale School District 13 developed a strategic plan from survey data from multiple stakeholders; Technology was identified as an area in need of further development; Infrastructure was being addressed in Facilities Management Plan BSD13 is a K-8 school district in DuPage County. The strategic plan was a Board desire that was shared during my employment process. District technology was reserved to pcs in a lab setting, projectors in classrooms, document cameras recently replacing overhead projectors

Next Steps Board of Education approved Strategic Plan initiatives prepared by the Administration, including moving toward a 1:1 rollout; District’s teacher laptop program was modified to include the testing of multiple devices for their teaching/learning potential; Technology Committee given the task of making the recommendation to the Board Laptop program was for teachers to use pc laptops in their learning and their teaching. Technology Director and I made the decision to amend the program in light of the strategic plan. Share rationale for the decision regarding the Technology Committee

But Wait… If District 13 was going to move toward 21st Century skill building using technology tools, how are we going to bring a traditionally trained staff to move away from direct instruction to facilitating instruction? The answer was creating instructional technology coaches to support staff in the classroom.
