Writing Task: PROMPT: Compare the effects of the fight for women’s rights on the protagonists and their families in ‘I Am Malala’ and ‘Made In Dagenham’ Over the next couple of weeks, we will be writing a practice essay to this prompt, using the block method. Today we will write paragraph one focusing on ‘Made in Dagenham’ Brainstorm - the effects of the fight for women’s rights on Rita - Break down the prompt and identify key words. - Discuss the need to deal with the protagonist themselves, then the families. - Explain that this practice essay will be written paragraph by paragraph, as you explore the texts (e.g. next session, Malala) - Brainstorm paragraph one: the effects of the fight for women’s rights on Rita - As a class, come up with a topic sentence. Students then finish the paragraph themselves.
