tableun_11_01 Example 11.2 Does this determination follow Beer's law? If a patient sample was processed and a percentage of 35 were obtained, what would the calcium concentration be? ANSWER A1 = 2 – log 79.4 = 2 – 1.90 = 0.10 A2 = 2 – log 39.8 = 2 – 1.60 = 0.40 A3 = 2 – log 31.6 = 2 – 1.50 = 0.50 A4 = 2 – log 20 = 2 – 1.30 = 0.70 For all the 4 samples ratio of concentration to Absorbance is given as: 2/0.1 = 8/0.4 = 10/0.5 = 14/0.7 = 20 So the samples follow Beer’s law For %T = 35, Absorbance = 2 – log (%T) = 2 – log 35 = 0.46 Concentration is given as: Cu = Cs(Au/As) =2(0.46/0.1) = 9.1 mg/dl.
