Charge for Outreach WG (OWG) Group leader: Jean Slaughter Develop requirements for outreach Requirements gathering process has been completed. First rough draft of requirements document has been written. Outreach requirements have influenced decisions on some items to purchase. For example, Apple TV seems to satisfy the requirement for docents to select content (slideshow, video, etc.) to show on the Public Display. Develop an operations model for outreach activities 0) Write a requirements document by February 1, 2007. Write a project status report by February 28, 2007. Requirements and cost estimates by April 28, 2007.

OWG Questions What are the requirements for outreach? Schedule resources (1-East) for outreach, ability to select content for tour groups, etc. Who will manage the content that will be used for outreach? This hasn’t been decided, but for now Visual Media Services is managing the content with input from the OWG. Does LHC@FNAL need to provide a service that is not already included as a service for CMS and LHC/LARP? How does a docent schedule the conference room (1-East) for a tour group? How will control of the privacy switch be handled? Scheduling will be handled by EPP for now. Can content of any monitor in LHC@FNAL be projected in the conference room for a tour group? This is the plan for the video matrix switch hardware.

Fermilab Open House Plywood wall removed on Feb. 8, 2007. Open House scheduled for Feb. 11 (Sunday), 1-5 pm. Expect approx. 2000 visitors LHC@FNAL has not been listed in the announcement. This was deliberate. A few (3 or 4) scientists will be available to answer questions. Scientists will be “trained” to downplay answers to questions from reporters. The Open House is not an opportunity for a newspaper to “break the news” about remote operations at Fermilab. One docent assigned to help with questions and to help with crowd control. Tour groups of 5 - 10 people accompanied by a scientist may optionally use 1-East to provide a closer look at the Ops. Center. VMS slideshow will be displayed on the Public Display.

“Internal” Open House Open House will be announced at All Experimenters’ Meeting on Feb. 5 and in Fermilab Today. “Internal” Open House scheduled for Feb. 12 (Monday), 3-4 pm. Expect approx. 200 visitors (100 invited + 100 coffee-break people) Marge Bardeen and docents have volunteered to provide homemade baked goods. No ribbon-cutting ceremony, but Pier will address visitors. Visitors will be allowed into the Ops. Center and 1-East. VMS slideshow will be displayed on the Public Display. Other suggestions? Get a few remote people to connect from CERN? Show CMS event display? WBM? Need help to set this up.

Grand Opening Date has not been set. James Gillies (CERN Press Office) plans to attend Possible visit by DG Discussions continue with regard to dates and who will be invited.
