Creating Effective Presentations Plan Before You Start Creating Effective Presentations
Questions What is the purpose of a presentation? What should you NOT overwhelm the audience with? What are the three words you should remember when planning a presentation? What is the key idea of purpose? What are the three rules of simplicity? What are the three main ideas of consistency?
Presentation of Information Before getting all caught up in the “gee-whiz” features of a multimedia presentation (like PowerPoint or Movie Maker), remember that the purpose of a presentation is to present information.

Remember Purpose Simplicity Consistency
Purpose Match the design to the purpose. Are you to entertain, inform, persuade, or sell? Is a light-hearted (fun) or a more formal approach most appropriate to the subject and your audience? Keep colors, clip art, and templates consistent with your main objective.
Simplicity Cut the clutter. Two font families is a good rule of thumb. One for the titles; one for the text Use easy to read font styles Watch font sizes No more than 1-2 graphic images or 1 chart per slide. Be sure graphic(s) relate to subject matter
Consistency Use the same colors and fonts throughout the presentation. Select graphic images in the same style. These are NOT in the same style. Use provided templates to maintain consistency.
