Health Care: Veterinarian Career Cluster: Health Care Jessie Nickelson February 7th, 2014 Career Technology/Foundations 5th Hour
Introduction “I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs… [They] are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor violate by cruelty.” –James Herriot. I really don’t understand why people feel the need to hurt animals. They can’t do anything to defend themselves and they rely on their owners to keep them safe and out of harm but some people go against that and hurt them anyways. I want to help animals and I want to do what some may not. I have always loved animals and I have always been strongly against the neglect and abuse. I have always wanted to be a veterinarian because I love animals and I’ve wanted to help them get better since I was young. I will be researching a veterinarian’s nature of work, working conditions, training, qualifications, advancements, job outlook and employment, earnings, and back up career.

Summary After researching this career, I am still interested in this field. The one thing that I am really looking forward to is to diagnose and treat animals for medical conditions. I will get to go home knowing that I helped an animal get better. One thing I do not enjoy about this career is putting animals down. Even though I know it’s probably the best thing for them, it’s still going to be heart breaking and it will take some getting used to. Overall, I learned that getting a career in this field is easier than the average employment. I also learned that the classes that I should take are classes I will most likely enjoy.
