is a form of church for our changing culture A Fresh Expression is a form of church for our changing culture established primarily for the benefit of people who are not yet members of any church. It will come into being through principles of listening, service, incarnational mission and making disciples. It will have the potential to become a mature expression of church shaped by the gospel and the enduring marks of the church and for its cultural context.

Listening for mission

It starts with... Double Listening (to the context/community and to the spirit of God) Service (not a service) It is essentially incarnational as opposed to attractional or engaged (see Models) It seeks to make disciples

3 Models

both-and continue to grow and develop the church as it is establish fresh expressions of church

5 Marks of Mission 1. Missional church is focused on God as Trinity Lambeth Conference 1988 1. Missional church is focused on God as Trinity 2. Missional church is incarnational 3. Missional church is transformational 4. Missional church makes disciples 5. Missional church is relational

Dispelling 5 myths Fresh Expressions are a replacement for inherited and traditional ways of doing church.

Dispelling 5 myths 2. Fresh Expressions are only appropriate where the church is in terminal decline.

Dispelling 5 myths 3. Fresh Expressions are merely a tool for getting people back into “real” church.

Dispelling 5 myths 4. Fresh Expressions are only for white, middle class suburban settings. The Black churches are growing and don’t need any new ideas.

Dispelling 5 myths 5. Fresh Expressions are not Anglican! Doing things in different ways causes disunity.
