Making the CHANGE Christine Wyatt VP Sales, Moodlerooms Louise Finn Migrating from a Legacy LMS to a Managed Open-Source Moodle Platform Christine Wyatt VP Sales, Moodlerooms Louise Finn CIO and Assistant VP of Technology Services, Loyola University Maryland Tracy McMahon Assistant Director in the Office of Technology,

Agenda Introductions Drivers for CHANGE Evaluating CHANGE: LMS Alternatives Considering the Cloud Incentivizing CHANGE and Campus-Wide Adoption Moving Forward

Christine Wyatt, VP Sales, Moodlerooms Introductions Christine Wyatt, VP Sales, Moodlerooms Louise Finn, CIO and Assistant VP of Technology Services, Loyola University Maryland Tracy McMahon, Assistant Director in the Office of Technology, Loyola University Maryland Christine Wyatt, Moodlerooms VP of Sales Christine Wyatt is the Director of Sales – West at Moodlerooms. Christine joined Moodlerooms in 2009, bringing 13 years of experience in higher education and technology to the Moodlerooms Sales Team. Prior to arriving at Moodlerooms, Christine was a Senior Account Manager at ANGEL Learning, Inc., for three years.  Prior to ANGEL, Christine served as Director of Academic Technology for SunGard Higher Education on site at Claremont Graduate University, with responsibilities including: computing labs, instructional technology, the Web, LMS and the university’s content management system.    Louise Finn, CIO and Assistant VP of Technology Services at Loyola University, Maryland Louise joined Loyola University Maryland in July 2007 as the Chief Information Officer and Assistant Vice President of Technology Services. Under Louise’s leadership, a three year technology strategic plan was developed and is now in year two of execution. Major initiatives include; paperless university, web transformation, re-vitalization of the ERP system and reporting enhancements, while continuing to work on cyber security and compliance initiatives. Tracy McMahon, Assistant Director in the Office of Technology Support at Loyola University, Maryland Tracy McMahon is an assistant director in the Office of Technology Support at Loyola University, Maryland, with specific oversight of the Faculty Technology Center. She began her work at Loyola as the Blackboard Administrator in 2006. Tracy has an undergraduate degree in English Literature, and received her Master’s in Instructional Technology with a concentration in Instructional Design in 2007.

Drivers for CHANGE? Broken Promises with Feature/Functionality Availability Previous LMS only delivered basic needs Inability to meet demand for extended functionality Difficulties Integrating with ERP and third-party providers Datatel ERP was “bread and butter” Desire to seamlessly connect third-party apps with LMS Budgetary Crisis’ Average 5-15% annual increase to support previous LMS Campus wide cuts, mounting concerns over annual cost of all education technology

Evaluating CHANGE: LMS Alternatives Open-Source Benefits: Moodle goes Mainstream Viability never in question- Trusted by other institutions Able to “test drive” Enterprise potential w/ supported partner network Sustainability, consistent updates and upgrades Superior feature to price ratio The Perfect Storm: Datatel ILP and Moodlerooms Datatel’s proactive outreach Turn-key solution simplicity Integration capabilities with mission-critical applications Moodlerooms’ Enterprise Moodle Platform, joule®

Considering the Cloud Benefits, Advantages No longer tied to on-campus resources (hardware obsolete) Enterprise Delivery and Scalability High service levels during peak periods of use 24/7 access, tech support and maintenance “Pick-up and go” capability Solid provider with proven service record Moodlerooms and Dell Dedication to LMS hosting success Future Possibilities Attesting for program use and expansion Scaling other campus applications

Incentivizing CHANGE and Campus-Wide Adoption The “Top-Down” Approach Private institution affords flexibility in approach Gain the support of leadership before introducing to faculty and students Gradual Transition Plan Year-long roll-out of migration and use of Moodle Customize Training Plan: Prescribe based on faculty Treat faculty as “elite users” and “early adopters” On-premise, face-to-face “Train-the-Trainer” program Create self-paced courses using Moodlerooms documentation from face-to-face training

Moving Forward Establishing the next steps in Implementation Expanding use from eight courses (Fall ‘10) to upwards of 40 (Spring ‘11) Full-use by Summer 2011 Further incentivizing faculty for expanding use How to educate faculty and students on expanded features? Leveraging the Cloud Hosting ERP in the Cloud Expanding use within existing programs
