THEORETICAL EVALUATION OF PRODUCTION WORK Lydia Twimasi

In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products? FRONT COVER My media product sticks to the main codes and conventions of every magazine front cover. It has a strong masthead which captures the audiences attention. I have stuck to using up to three colours on the whole magazine cover so it is not too busy and is easy on the eye. The main image is in the primary optical area and features the main character of the trailer, so the readers know what th film is about I have decided to play it safe and not challenge the forms and conventions of real media products so it looks more professional.

These are a few film magazine that I looked at to try and assimilate a professional look. MASTHEAD MAIN IMAGE SELL LINES COLOUR SCHEME BARCODE DATE PRICE

POSTER My poster consists of a: large title which attracts the eye, bold colours which stand out from the background. intriguing picture which would attract viewers to the film, persuasive language which might persuade the viewers to go and see the film I feel that a successful film poster will accomplish attracting the target audience and persuade them to come and watch the film . because my poster is a teaser one it only has the main details on it .

A few professional horror posters that inspired my product. Most of the images are in the rule of thirds or the triangle of interest . LARGE TITLE MAIN IMAGE RELEASE DATE AGE CERTIFICATE

TRAILER Frighten and panic Cause dread and alarm Evoke our hidden worst fears Captivate and entertain us in a cathartic experience. concludes in a terrifying shocking Finale.

Other trailers that I had a look at to gather ideas from. “ Psycho”- Psychological “ The shining”- Psychological “ The exorcist”- Religious “ Wolf Creek”- True story “ The Decent”- Monster/Gore “ Saw”- Psychological- gore “ Texas Chainsaw Massacre”- Gore Genesis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb39ViimmNY – An Student Trailer

How did you use media technologies/software's in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Adobe premier We used Adobe Premiere for the construction of the film trailer Photoshop It is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation software, and a product of Adobe Systems. It has been described as "an industry standard for graphics professionals" i used Photoshop to influence my images in way that would assimilates a proficient look. As you can see with the help of Photoshop I was able to add different effects to better to my images such as: Contrast Bright light Black & white Dimmed back light

Media technologies continued… Paint features included a zoom slider, and a crop function. Paint saved my images and f as a .jpg default. This dramatically impact the overall quality of an image, especially after multiple saves of the file due to its method of compression. In addition to this there is also a selection of fonts. PowerPoint PowerPoint presentations consist of a number of individual pages or slides. Slides may contain text, graphics, movies, and other objects, which may be arranged freely on the slide. I used this programme to create my evaluation and to also display my original images. Publisher Includes the enhancement documents, picture enhancement, editing Web publications, typography features and include print and print Preview experience.

What research did you do? Research & planning for our trailer. What research did you do? In order to produce my music magazine , I had to research the genre, The main source of information was the internet. The main reason why I choose to use the net, is because it’s a form of media that’s efficient and resourceful. I also researched audience preferences for Audience When marketing and studying cinema it is important to know whom the intended audience are. The time period An important part of Genre theory is knowing at which period a film was made. Marketing Genre theory is a very good way of marketing a film both for the producers, secondly for the audience.

Representation Usually a white female Submissive Innocent Typically the ideal scene most people picture when thinking of a horror movie is a chase scene. Within that scene, there is some girl being chased through woods, or a house, or some dark alley by a male somehow costumed or covered so his identity cannot be discovered. The position as the female as the antagonist also seems to be a rarity in the horror genre

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Gives an idea of what the film is about but doesn’t give it all away Image from the film Church

MEDIA RESEARCH METHODS RESEARCH CONTINUED… Genre research Case studies Total Film Empire Sight and sound Audience feedback surveys Questionnaires Focus groups MEDIA RESEARCH METHODS Audience research Institutional research. Primary ( own words ) Qualitative (written words) Secondary (found research) Quantative (numbers/stats)

What have you learned from your audience feedback? Although our trailer wasn’t completely edited, I still decided to show my focus group my poster and magazine front cover, I then asked them what they thought our trailer would consist of they answered : “ a shot with somebody getting killed by a crucifix” “ some religious iconography, like a church and bibles” “ a chase scene in the church” “ some blasphemy “ From my audience research I gathered that our trailer was successful as 89% of the audience said that it made their “ heart race as if the were the victims in the trailer. .Better quality
