Presentation transcript:

Malalignment of upper extremity fractures Malalignment of upper extremity fractures. In these images of healing fractures of the radius and ulna, suboptimal reduction has occurred. In the AP image, malalignment of the ulnar fracture is particularly evident with effects occurring at the ulnomeniscotriquetral articulation. In the lateral view, the telescoping of the oblique fracture of the radius is demonstrated with resultant shortening, also affecting the wrist mechanics. This patient's chief complaint at the time of presentation of these radiographs was wrist pain, which is possibly due to altered mechanics from the poor fracture alignment. Source: Chapter 11.
