Changing People’s Expectations (ChaPE) Key contacts/proposers: Linda Bryant, Loretta Hansen, Melinda Gardner THE IDEA An awareness campaign to help change the expectation of people so that they understand and expect the option to experience a self management approach, including shared decision making, whenever they interact with a health care provider. WHO BENEFITS AND WHY People are not aware of the change in our approach to health care and so are unprepared for the concept of becoming more involved in shared decision-making and the management of their own health. The awareness campaign will mean that people will wish to be more of the driver of their own health care, and their expectations will also cement the change in approach from health care providers. SELF-MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FIT Our aim is to raise the expectation of people so that they are no longer relatively passive recipients of health care, but understand that they can be, and should be, engaged, proactive participants in their health care decisions – motivated and informed. This leads to behaviour change and better self management – empowering wellness. BIG CHANGE OCCURS WHEN A LOT OF PEOPLE CHANGE A LITTLE
