Hybrid Electric/Hydraulic Vehicles Electro Drive Co. Hybrid Electric/Hydraulic Vehicles OVERVIEW
Is this just another old car or is this the car of the future? This 1987 Pontiac 6000's drive system has been removed and replaced by an Electro Drive Co. hybrid drive system. The low speed operation is accomplished by high torque hydraulic motors within the front wheels and the high speed operation by poly phase AC induction motors within the rear wheels. The hybrid motor is a small 4 cycle 2 cylinder engine (that will use less than half the fuel of the original engine) augmented by a 15 HP DC motor energize by a battery pack. The 300 pound battery pack is capable of 15 KWH and is located between the rear seat and the trunk. This hybrid system can be installed in most of the existing and new car chassis. For additional info see published patent application Pub. No.: US 2008/0053722 A1.
