BATTLING EMOTIONAL CONFLICTS Series: WINNING LIFE’S UNSEEN BATTLES

The Point: The Battle of doing the RIGHT THING is won by allowing Jesus Christ to DOMINATE us.

I. THE EXPENSE OF THIS BATTLE 1. FRUSTRATIONS

I do not understand what I do I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. Romans 7:15 NIV

The battle emotionally is exhausting as we do things we don’t want to do.

2. Willful DISOBEDIENCE & GUILT   I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong, and my bad conscience shows that I agree that the law is good. Romans 7:15 NLT

When we choose to sin, GUILT will follow. We will lose if try and battle our sinful nature alone!

3. Habitual SIN   As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.

For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do---this I keep on doing.

Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is SIN living in me that does it. Romans 7:17-20 NIV These create ADDICTIONS which result in SINFUL HABITS.

4. Ruled by The Law of SIN   It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart.

But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind. This law wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Romans 7:21-23 NLT

Law of Sin = Doing what I don’t want to do.

5. HOPELESSNESS   Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin. Romans 7:24

Consistent sin causes discouragement and despair.

II. CONFLICT OF TWO NATURES

TUG OF WAR EVIL TRINITY HOLY TRINITY World FATHER FLESH DEVIL SON HOLY SPIRIT DEVIL SON OLD NATURE NEW NATURE

III. THE ESCAPE FOR THIS BATTLE 1. Get under NEW MANAGEMENT

Thank God. The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin. Romans 7:25 NLT

Make Jesus the CEO of your life.

Assume responsibility for RATIONALIZING and MINIMIZING your sin. Our Old Nature can talk us into anything! Get rid of the temptations in your life.

3. By FAITH accept your new FREEDOM.   Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 NIV

No sin can be held against us because Christ Righteousness is transferred to Christ followers.

Change Your INPUT   Because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2 NIV

The Power of the Spirit within us gives the strength to defeat our Old Nature! Be careful what you watch, what you do, who you are with, and where you go!

The Power is there, but the choice is ours to appropriate it! Do you want to be the FROG or the TOAD?
