Meaning of some names, titles, and events “Jesus” is the Greek for the Jewish name “Joshua”, which means “God saves”. “Christ” is the Greek word for the Hebrew/Jewish name “Messiah”, which means “the Anointed One”. “Passover”; the Jewish people celebrate Passover as a commemoration of their liberation by God from slavery in Egypt and their freedom as a nation under the leadership of Moses.
