An Invitation to Participate in a Major Event Bringing Out to Sea? to Stockholm Why “The Plastic Garbage Project” is the Right Exhibition at the Right Time

What is “Out to Sea”? A powerful museum exhibition about the incredible amounts of plastic garbage accumulating in the global seas … and what we can do about it The “Out to Sea” exhibit was produced by the Plastic Garbage Project at the Gestaltung Museum in Zurich. It has already traveled to a dozen countries.

Something for — and from — everyone The items on exhibit in “Out to Sea” come from beach clean-up programs in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, and the Pacific Ocean. They demonstrate the consequences of our everyday use of plastic. Source of the problem: Everyone. Target audience: Everyone. Who knows … maybe even you have contributed, unwittingly, something to the exhibition. Plastic reaches almost anywhere.

This huge collection is a key piece of the exhibit This huge collection is a key piece of the exhibit. It is the amount of plastic garbage that enters our seas every 15 seconds

Timing Out to Sea will come to Tekniska Muséet in Stockholm March-June 2017. On June 5-9, 2017, Sweden and Fiji will co-sponsor the first-ever UN high-level conference on the state of the seas. Sweden will no doubt give this event high profile. The conference will be held in New York, June 5-9. Sweden is strongly committed, with Fiji, to take global leadership on the health of the seas. This exhibit makes the plight of the sea real and tangible.

Making the education connection Bringing the exhibition to Stockholm also involves committing to the development of an education and awareness raising program reaching schools, citizens, and decision-makers in business and government

By facing the problem … we can find solutions The exhibition also provides opportunities to showcase new approaches to creating a more circular economy by turning all waste into resource

We need your support 1. Be a financial sponsor who can provide funds to cover exhibition fees and other costs (we have sponsorship packages at several different levels) 2. Join a coalition of co-sponsoring organizations and prominent individuals who will lend their names, expertise, and communications power to the program 3. Help us mobilize volunteers and supporters of all kinds to help bring the exhibit to life … and make it a turning point in the way people view the sea, and our responsibility to protect it

The Project Team working in partnership with Tekniska Muséet to plan, fund, and coordinate the exhibition ART.27 Gunilla Hedén The business name comes from Article nr.27 in the UN Universal Declaration on Human Rights. Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author. ART.27’s Focus: To professionally initiate, produce and manage large international projects in art and environment in a global perspective. Founded by Stina Axelsson. The Plimsoll line marks the level to which cargo ships can be safely loaded. My belief is that everything needs such a line, human, animals and nature.   Focus: To spread knowledge and awareness of the importance of water and the environment through lectures and exhibitions. “Clean water is Life and the prerequisite for all life. My goal is for each and everyone to understand the responsibility for water and the environment in one’s daily actions.” — Stina Axelsson, Founder, PLIMSOLL The AtKisson Group is a global network of sustainability advisors, researchers, and communicators, founded in 1992. We support organizations, companies, governments, and the United Nations on sustainability strategy, policy, training and decision-making. We are also active in developing education, arts, and civil society programs for sustainability. AtKisson Europe AB is the Swedish branch of the AtKisson Group.
