Dates to Remember Deadlines for 2015-2016 Application deadline: January 31, 2016 Full payment due: January 31, 2016 Withdrawal and refund deadline: January 31, 2016 ePortfolio window: April 1 – May 18, 2016 Assessment center window: March - June 15,2016 Scores released on or before December 31, 2016 Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

How might I begin?? Next begin to analyze your strengths and needs in terms of your content. Here is an organizer. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

In this organizer you narrow your content focus by choosing Selected Response or Constructed Response. Using your charts, Identify content addressed in the Exercise Description and Rubric. List the key concepts from the standards, information from cohort sessions or other resources such as individual knowledge/experiences to elaborate on the content identified. Then analyze where you are now in terms of your strengths and needs. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

As you review your C1 chart for selected response, decide what content you need. Notice both the description and rubric are listed as a beginning point. This column is about you deciding what you need to know to prepare yourself. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Next think about these identified content areas and elaborate on them Next think about these identified content areas and elaborate on them. Look to your certificate standards and your knowledge as a professional. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Now analyze where you are now in terms of this content and where you need to go. What do you need to do next… Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Here is an example of what this might look like using the Exceptional Needs certificate. REMEMBER the only one who knows what you need to do to prepare is YOU. Sharing this with a peer is beneficial because you may find an unknown resource, clarify your next step or a need. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Once you have analyzed your individual strengths and needs, the next step is the develop your plan. You’ll go back to the next steps you’ve identified or needs or strengths to help narrow your plan. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Using your next steps, strenghts, needs, identified content, choose your study focus. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Next identify resources or strategies to address your focus. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Next decide how you will organize your information. Will you take notes? Highlight an article? Create note cards? Electronic system? Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Next decide when you will have this work done. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Both organizers can be used multiple times. Last once information has been gathered reflection on the information. Here you make the decision if this information meets your need advancing your learning focus towards preparation. You are re-evaluating where you are now? Here you think about your next step. What do I need to do next? What do I need do to continue to do to prepare? Both organizers can be used multiple times. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Here is an example for how a study plan MIGHT look for Exceptional Needs certificate. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Dates to Remember Deadlines for 2015-2016 Application deadline: January 31, 2016 Full payment due: January 31, 2016 Withdrawal and refund deadline: January 31, 2016 ePortfolio window: April 1 – May 18, 2016 Assessment center window: March - June 15,2016 Scores released on or before December 31, 2016 Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Scoring This is the elephant in the room for continuing candidates. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Weighting of Scores Though the weights across the Assessment Center (40%) and Portfolio (60%) Sections remain the same, the weights for the individual components were necessary revised to reflect the new composition of these sections: Assessment Center (Component 1) – 40% Split equally between CRI and SRI Portfolio (Components 2, 3, and 4) – 60% Differentiation in Instruction (C2) – 25% Teaching Practice and Learning Environment (C3) – 50% Reflective and Effective Practitioner (C4) – 25% Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

Floor Score In addition to meeting an overall cut score (which is TBD), a floor average score of 1.75 will be required on the Assessment Center (Component 1) and Portfolio (Components 2, 3, and 4) sections. The value of 1.75 sends the message to candidate and policymakers that: National Board values both assessment center and portfolio aspects of teaching, and Candidates cannot demonstrate little or no evidence of what each section measures to earn certification. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft

What is a Floor Score? Specifically, the floor score requirements are: Candidates must earn a minimum average score of 1.75 on Component 1: Content Knowledge, which is also referred to as the Assessment Center Section. The average score for the Assessment Center Section is based on averaging the scores from the three constructed response exercises and the selected response section. Candidate must earn a minimum average score of 1.75 on Components 2, 3, an 4, which is also known as the Portfolio Section. The average score for the Portfolio Section is based on averaging the scores from the three referenced components. Copyright © National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University Draft
