A little about me… B.A. Chemistry with Biochemistry concentration, Bryn Mawr College, PA M.A. Physical Organic Chemistry, Bryn Mawr College, PA Credentials from University of San Diego

My Career Began in research & development at DuPont Moved into chemical sales – responsible for pharmaceutical active ingredients Product and project manager for FDA inspected facility outside of Shanghai, China There was a lot of travel required and I decided to move on to the next chapter of my life… teaching!

1st Semester Chemistry Curriculum Matter and Change (Chapter 2) Atomic Structure (Chapter 4) Electrons in Atoms (Chapter 5) The Periodic Table(Chapter 6) Ionic and Metallic Bonding (Chapter 7) Chemical Names and Formulas (chapter 9) Covalent Bonding (Chapter 8) States of Matter (chapter 13)

2nd Semester Chemistry Curriculum Chemical Quantities (chapter 10) Chemical Reactions (chapter11) Stoichiometry (chapter12) The Behavior of Gases (chapter 14) Water and Aqueous Systems (chapter 15) Solutions (chapter 16) Acids, Bases, and Salts (chapter 19) Thermochemistry (chapter 17) Reactions Rates and Equilibrium (chapter 18) Nuclear Radiation (chapter 25) Oxidation-Reduction Reactions (Chapter 20) The Chemistry of Life(Chapter 24)

Based on total points (weighted categories) Grading Based on total points (weighted categories) - Assignments 10% (classwork and homework) - Lab Reports 20% - Quizzes 10% - Chapter Tests 50% - Final Exam 10% *** Please check the notes section in the gradebook, I use these to communicate late lab acceptance dates***

How can students be successful? Participate Be in class on time Review work daily Ask questions/seek help when needed Study Participate in Knight zone!!! Check the gradebook and Complete missing work and turn in Complete the Test Corrections for “test redemption”

Absent Policy, Homework, Labs, Tests -Make up work is only accepted for excused absences -Labs must be made up within 5 days of experiment and student must bring someone who has already completed the lab. data will be provided for students to complete the rest of the lab report. -Late work will receive 50% of the points earned and must be turned in before the unit test for the missing assignment

Absent Policy and Homework -When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed by contacting a classmate or their unit schedule. -Each Unit has a schedule of daily topics as well as homework Assignments and due dates. -Students are responsible for speaking with Ms. Grein prior to planned absences occurring and making arrangements to complete the work and tests before the absence or as soon as possible. -Missed Tests are taken the day of return unless otherwise discussed with Ms. Grein. The test will be a different test than was administered previously.

SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY! -Students not following all safety rules will be excluded from participation in labs to keep them from hurting themselves or others. -If a student does not complete the pre-lab questions or flowchart they may not participate in the lab. -Students must wear pants and closed toe shoes on lab days -Students may never eat, drink or chew gum
