Self-introduction Grace Hui Chin Lin Ph.D. Texas A&M University, College Station University of Southern California, Los Angeles

About me and my family I am originally from Changhua. In my family, there are five members, including my parents, two sisters, and me. Both of my two sisters are married and I am the youngest daughter in my family.

Background After graduating from Changhua Girl’s First Senior High School, I entered Tam-Kang University and majored in French Literature. After graduating from French Department of Tam-Kang University, I serviced as a Flight Attendant in China Airline. At that time, I traveled many countries, including Holland, America, Japan, Thailand,.etc.

Director in Kindergarten I had taught children English since I was a senior high school student. I sold tape of English learning, mentored cram-school pupils, and taught in kindergartens. After ten years of teaching, I became a director in a Bilingual kindergarten, Washington American School of Changhua.

USC I flew to Los Angeles, and went to University of Southern California (USC) for learning TESOL Methodologies. My major in USC was Teaching English as a Second Language. With one year and two months, I took twenty-nine credit hours of TESOL graduate courses and obtained a Master Degree of “Master of Science” in TESOL.

Universities in Taiwan I taught English in many Taiwanese universities, including, Dayeh University, National Formosa University, China Medical University, Changhwa University of Education, National Sun Yat Sen University, Mingdao University,Tunghai University, Chaoyang University of Technology, and Southern Taiwan University of Technology. Teaching contents were about Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing & Communication English courses to Non-English Majors (FENM Program in Tunghai ). Writing/Reading & Commercial English courses to English-Major undergraduates in Departments of Foreign Languages and Literature in Chaoyang University and Southern Taiwan University.

Ph.D. Study in Texas A&M University, College Station. From Fall, 2003 to Spring, 2007 (Ph.D. study four years totally), I had taken eighty-nine credit hours and achieved my goal of being a Philosophy Doctor. From 1999 to 2007, I spend 8 years for graduate study. ( in California and Texas, 118 credits taken)

Specialty TEFL and Sociolinguistics graduate courses I had taken “ESL/EFL pedagogy”, “Assessment”, “Sociolinguistics”, “Applied Linguistics”, “English in a cultural setting”, and “TESOL Methodologies” courses when studying as a graduate student.

Completed Projects Ph.D. dissertation project (Qaulitative): A CASE STUDY OF SEVEN TAIWANESE ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE FRESHMAN NON-ENGLISH MAJORS’ PERCEPTIONS ABOUT LEARNING FIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES.
