Welcome to the calculate games Hans de Zeeuw Trainer at Rekenteam and teacher at ROC Kop van Noord Holland Rekenteam gives extra calculation and math training to youngsters

Wich games? Rekenduo.nl, the matching game Cijferstorm.nl, the card game Cijferstormspelen.nl, the digital game, FREE for everyone to make an account and play

Why games, gaming and playing Calculation/math problems can be put in a different surrounding The perception of the player/student Training with fun Playing a game distract the thinking about calculation

Our road to the games Developed during personal training programs Tested first at 25 kids, with remarkable efforts Tested by 50 schools, primairy, secondary and higher Feedback has been used to make this final version you will play today

Our results More fun More eager to go to the calculation/math lessons Games used to train a certain part of the matter Games used as a reward at the end of a lesson Games used as a method to get everyone focused at the starting

This workshop You can play three different games I ask you to play the different games Questions when something isn’t clear Discussion after 30 minutes about the games I am eager to know your experiences Will you use it in your lessons? Which moment is the best moment to use a game?

Calculate and Match (Dutch: Rekenduo) The calculation is divided in four parts of different calculation themes Basic countings (pink), context (blue), measures and geometry (green) and relations between figures (orange) Every match contains a question and an answer, that’s a match You start with all the cards face up Later you can play face down as memory With the answerpapers de players can check themselves It’s activating co-operative working between players Players are surprised about their progress The games are made in four levels

Cijferstorm Cards with numbers from 1 till 20 The level of the players determined the numbers to use Colors are not important, they will be used with another variety. Every player gets 10 cards All the other cards are stacked in the middle and one card will be opened, that’s the target. The player left is starting with the opened card This player has to count with his cards (using 2, 3 or 4 cards) and has to reach the target. The last card is the new target for the next player. The player that played all his cards out (no cards left) is the winner

Cijferstorm, the math game Like the card game Extra: the parenthesis can also be used Four levels Two playing times, 180 sec or 360 sec Playing all the cards (no cards left) 5 points Seconds left bonuspoints Top 10 and top 100 scorelist In development: multiplayer, players are playing against each other Teacher can make a group and follow their own players

Let’s play At every table you will find a short explanation We will switch every 5-7 minutes Discussion after 30 minutes In every ALM-goody bag you will find an envelope with examples of “calculate and match” (=Rekenduo)
