Dear Chanelle and Tony, The transition statement has been written to outline the significant learning that occurred whilst Alfio attended Goodstart Proserpine Kindergarten program. The following information will summarise your child’s strengths, interests and key learning over the time they attended kindergarten. This information is valuable support for children, parents and future teachers as they move towards their next phase in life, starting school. The transition statement is designed to summarise learning and development and aligns with the mandated Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines. Each section will describe a range of key focus and significant learning’s. This information has been gathered through the year via formal and informal methods including parent input, child and teachers conversations and children’s participation in various learning experiences. The Early Childhood Teacher’s decision making is guided by the standards as outlined in the learning and development phases of the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines continua. Goodstart Early Learning encourages you to share this information with your child’s school to support the transition process for you and your child.

Teachers comments Identity (prep curriculum links: social and personal learning) A kindergarten child who has a strong sense of identity: is building a sense of security and trust acts with increasing independence and perseverance is building a confident self-identity Alfio will sometimes display some anxiety initially on entering Kindergarten and seeks reassurance and support from a familiar educator. Alfio is confident to organise props, materials and friends to join in familiar and new play experiences (photos above). Alfio is confident in the Kindergarten environment and engages in a variety of types of play, especially in the construction area with tools where he has had lots of experiences and knows the rules and ways of working.

Connectedness (prep curriculum links: history and geography) A kindergarten child who is connected with and contributes to their world: is building positive relationships with others shows increasing respect for diversity shows increasing respect for environments Alfio often offers to help with familiar classroom responsibilities and will carry them out independently e.g. putting bins on tables for meal times. Alfio responds positively and respectfully to difference and similarities among people in adult-led conversations. Alfio actively engages in ways to care for the environment e.g. assisting in potting plants and managing worm juice (photos above).

Alfio enjoys being outside and engaging in active play (photos above). Wellbeing (prep curriculum links health and physical education) A kindergarten child who has a strong sense of wellbeing: Is building a sense of autonomy and wellbeing. explores ways to show care and concern and interact positively with others. explores ways to promote own and others’ health and safety. explores ways to promote physical wellbeing. Alfio eagerly contributes to new and challenging experiences and will often lead play with peers. Alfio seeks out specific children and adults to interact socially with e.g. Chelsea, Alisara and Nicholas. Alfio identifies familiar routines and rules to keep himself and others safe and healthy (photo – having clean hands for cooking). Alfio has a willingness to try out ways to manipulate familiar and new objects, tools and equipment. Alfio enjoys being outside and engaging in active play (photos above).

Active Learning (prep curriculum links: science and active learning processes) A kindergarten child who is a confident and involved learner: is building positive dispositions and approaches toward learning shows increasing confidence and involvement in learning engages in ways to be imaginative and creative explores tools, technologies and information and communication technologies (ICTs). Alfio listens, observes and communicates with others in a range of learning contexts to build on current learning (photo above on square mat, explaining the rules of his game to a peer). Alfio makes attempts to use some strategies that help them to focus when engaging in a familiar learning context and interactions, e.g. keeps body still, faces the speaker, stops talking to concentrate during group times. Alfio actively seeks ways to use imaginative ideas and processes in a range of play contexts when interacting with others, e.g. uses a large block as a surf board. Alfio with support, uses technologies and ICT to play educational games e.g. using the Lenovo or the Ipad.

Communicating (prep curriculum links: English and mathematics) A kindergarten child explores and expands ways to use language exploring and expanding ways to use language; engages with literacy in personally meaningful ways; explores and engages with numeracy in personally meaningful ways. Alfio looks at the speaker and listens to and follows simple directions (photos above – finding letters to his name and gluing onto green paper and drawing the letter A on the blackboard). Alfio revisits and talks about ideas in familiar texts, e.g. links an idea in a text to a personal experience. Alfio can independently use some mathematical ideas to solve an everyday problem, e.g. gets a long block to push out objects from under a shelf. Alfio uses verbal language to inform educators and peers what happens at his dad’s workshop, what his mum’s job is etc.
