Introduction to Psychology Unit I Test Review

Test Format Vocabulary – matching Everything else – multiple choice, true/false. Taken on the electronically on the computers Each student will have a login and password. The test will be activated by Wheeler Notecard Must be handwritten May be double-sided No larger than 3’’x5’’

Seven Modern Perspectives of Psychology Biological – Biological process influence behavior and mental process. Behavioral/Learning – Personal experience and reinforcement guide individual development.

Seven Modern Perspectives of Psychology Humanistic – People make free and conscious choices based on their unique experiences – self concept. Psychoanalytic – Unconscious forces or desires affect behavior.

Seven Modern Perspectives of Psychology Cognitive – Perceptions and thoughts influence behavior. Sociocultural – ethnicity, gender, culture and socioeconomic status affects behavior. Evolutionary – Adaptive organism survive and transmit their genes to future generations.

Methods of Research

One of the most important things for psychologists to do… Is to replicate their experiments.

Methods of Research Survey – use questions on feeling, opinions or behavior patterns. Important to consider the people selected to survey. Cross-sectional – look at different age groups at the same time in order to understand changes that occur during the life span.

Methods of Research Field experiment – research conducted in the field. Naturalistic observation – subjects are not aware they are being researched.

Methods of Research Case studies – collect lengthy (usually), detailed information about a person’s background. You can clearly see connections between childhood and adulthood. Longitudinal- can be used to track people over long periods of time.

Methods of Research Interview – involves studying people face-to-face and asking questions. Often used to see how people address problems. People tend to present information favorably in order to please interviewer. May also give person Psychological test.
