Current Trends for Business Aviation in California TY The trends and concerns for business aviation in California are the same as industry’s global concerns. In CA, however, they are magnified for a number of reasons High density, environmentally sensitive population High intensity use of land and airspace Proximity to Asian and Latin American markets Existing aviation history and aviation infrastructure Association of California Airports September 15, 2016

National Business Aviation Association NBAA is… 1947 11,000 member companies Forums and conferences. Government advocacy Professional development Industry best practices www.nbaa.org

Trends in Business Aviation Biz Aircraft Market Continuous growth Small to mid-size business jets Avionics Upgrades vs buying new Upgrades motivated by ICAO, non-US and NexGen Desire for CBP facilities

Airspace Modernization Enabling Next-Gen Benefits Increased capacity Reduced emissions Lower Minimums Improved Safety Process Metroplex Equipage – FMS Training Next-Gen Advisory Committee – airlines airports manufacturers DOD pilots, ATC FAA – 13 metroplex studies, NorCal, HOU, ATL, & Charlotte already completed NorCal-32 procedures & 8 RNAV routes, ATL 57 proc, underway in SoCal, PHX, LAS first meeting Using technology to: De-conflict traffic for multiple airport operations Remove doglegs, levels offs during approach and departure Decrease lateral spacing using wake turb characteristics and wind rather than weight alone. ATL, Cinncinatti, HOU NY CHI and soon in SFO, LAX, & Honolulu Participate in process, support the outcomes Requires operators to equip for PBN and RNAV-RNP – more precision. Enormous investment. Business aviation is equipping. Some foreign countries require ADS-B equip Tough choices. Upgrade aircraft or buy newer GIS revealing undetected airspace penetrations from structures and tree growth. Important to establish strong working relationship with P&Z and monitor FAA’s tall structure process Mitigation no substitute for land use planning. Establish relationship with P&Z but even their advice is sometimes ignored. Reach out to councils and supervisors, and tenants so they are there when you need them Data sharing – work with nearby airports to share information about available parking space, services, interruptions in service, Etc. especially for special events. Car shows, College playoffs, Super Bowl, Boxing matches, etc. Notify NBAA and we can help notify our members
