“Do not follow where the path may lead “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Harold R. McAlindon

Passion, Purpose, Spirit These next two days will be opportunities to: Discover Imagine Take risks Take action

Why are we here? Strengthen partnership with AEA Improve student achievement Create a community of leaders among staff and students “The greatest days of my life….. so far.”

What are the goals for the next two days? Two months? Two years? Initial goal – look at key elements of leadership and collegiality, and their impact on student achievement Short term goal – establish study groups from this academy to analyze, research and establish direction for school improvement initiatives (MSIT) ASAP - Accelerating Student Achievement Pilot IDM – Instructional Decision Making Long term goal – develop a community of leaders who constructively analyze and critique practices and procedures in order to positively impact student achievement. (Professional Development)

High-quality professional development programs: Focus on student learning and the specific problems practitioners face Reinforce and sustain collegiality and collaboration among teachers, administrators and district personnel Link directly with day-to-day work in real schools and classrooms Sustain a consistency of focus over time; and Use feedback from teaching and learning to inform program development and evaluation

Vision: What will this leadership group look like, sound like, and model to others? more aware of and willing to challenge school-wide issues that directly impact student achievement promote a culture of shared beliefs and a sense of community and cooperation among the students and staff. brings together people with diverse, sometimes even conflicting viewpoints, to achieve collaborative working relationships and a purposeful community of learners and leaders.

Everything rises and falls on leadership True leadership has nothing to do with one’s level in the organization.

What is leadership? Leadership is taking people from one place to another. More than one way to get there.

Leadership is second only to classroom instruction among all school-related factors that contribute to what students learn at school. ~The Wallace Foundation 2004
