College Planning w/ Naviance Advisory Activity for 11th grade

What is Naviance? Naviance is an online resource that you will use from now until graduation. College and Career tools are the main focus, but your counselor will also use Naviance to communicate with you. For 11th graders, Naviance offers some excellent college planning tools.

Reminder about Emails You should have registered your Naviance account last year using an email that you regularly use. Some students used their CBSD.org email address, which won’t work with Naviance. Double check your email is not a “CBSD.org” email address.

How to Login Go to www.cbsd.org Click on “Parents/Students” The Naviance link will be along the left side of the page. Go to the “CB West” link, and enter in the username (email) and password you registered with.

College Tab “College Search” An easy way to identify Colleges and Universities that fit what you’re looking for. Enter in 3 or so factors, such as school size, major, and location, and quickly generate a list of matching schools. Run through several times using different combinations to get a full range of schools.

When you get a manageable number, view your matches. Go through and get a feel for what colleges come up. Try to not rule out a school just because you haven’t heard of it. Start the search over using different factors.

About Me Tab “College Planning Worksheet” We’ve created a worksheet in Naviance for you to update and edit throughout the year. As you go through the career and college planning process, you can enter in the information in your Naviance account. Your counselor can also use this form to connect you to resources and information!

Colleges by Admissions Your advisory teacher is handing out a worksheet showing colleges where CB West students have recently been accepted, organized by GPA range. This is just one way to search, and the idea is to help you become familiar with some schools that might be a good fit.
