Bird Watching in Morning Most birds are more active and alert during the morning. Because they are trying to find some food to scraf down. Advantage for early morning bird watching no one else is around disturb birds. In early morning your more likely to find song birds.

Late morning and early afternoon Is worst time go birding because birds are less active and aren't feeding. Best time to observe birds of prey like hawks, eagles, accpiters, and falcons. They like utilize the thermals which are coulmns of thin air. There able to scan ground better for mice, voles and squirrels.

Late Afternoon and Early Evening If your not morning person still can catch song birds at bird feeders for another meal. But when light starts to dwindle you can start seeing the appearances of owls. Some species will come out random during different part of day

Night time birding There are different kinds of birds come out at night. Species that come out at night are owls, night jars and rails. Even different kind swallows will come at night.

Pine Siskin Color Pattern Pine siskins are brown and very streaky birds with subtle yellow edgings on wings and tails. Flashes of yellow can erupt as they take flight, flutter at branch tips, or display during mating.

Green-tailed Towhee Color Pattern Green-tailed Towhees are grayish birds with olive-yellow wings, back and tail. The head is strongly marked with a bright rufous crown, white throat, and a dark “mustache” stripe.

Yellow-breasted Chat Color Pattern Chats are olive-green above with a bright yellow breast and bold face markings. The face is gray, with a white eyering that connects to the bill, forming “spectacles.” They also have a white malar or mustache stripe bordering the cheek. The lower belly is white.

Western Tanager Color Pattern Adult male Western Tanagers are yellow birds with black wings and a flaming orange-red head. The wings have two bold wingbars; the upper one yellow and the lower white. The back and tail are black. Adult females have red restricted to the front of the face, with subdued yellow-green plumage on the body. Immatures in fall lack red, while in spring show less red on the head relative to that on adults of their respective sex.

Downy Woodpecker and Hairy Woodpecker Downy and Hairy woodpeckers are widely distributed across North America. Both commonly visit feeder areas where they feed on suet and sometimes seeds. These woodpeckers are the only common woodpeckers that show a vertical white stripe on the back. Males of both species have a red patch on the back of the head. Juveniles may have a wash of red, orange, or (rarely) yellow on the crown. Overall size and bill size and shape are the most useful characters for distinguishing the two species in the field. There are subtle plumage features that can also be useful when a good closeup view is possible.
