Presentation transcript:

Antenna An antenna is a transducer that converts radio frequency electric current to electromagnetic waves that are then radiated into space. The electric field or "E" plane determines the polarization or orientation of the radio wave.

Definition It is the polarization of the wave radiated by the antenna in the far field. The polarization of each antenna in a system should be properly aligned. Maximum signal strength between stations occurs when both stations are using identical polarization. Direction of antenna & Polarization is alike

Types of Polarization Linear Vertical Horizontal Circular Elliptical

Match the Applications TV Broadcasting - Linear Polarization FM Radio - Horizontal polarization Blue sky - Circular Polarization

Polarization Mismatch The polarization of the receiving antenna is not same as the polarization of the incident wave. This is called as “Polarization Mismatch”.
