Miss O’Neill, Mrs Ryan and Ms Miller Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy: Sorting activities this will include: Natural and manmade materials e.g. small toys, leaves, pictures in catalogues, sorting themselves physically and their names and photos, shapes, shapes in environment, making patterns with different materials Working with number -Activities will include: counting objects in the environment. Identifying different numbers in our everyday lifes.. Cutting and sticking activities, number jigsaw, white boards and markers, counting stick, number line, Songs and stories – within 5 e.g. 5 hairy spiders, 5 speckled frogs extend to 10, 15,20 etc when ready. Number formation rhymes. ICT: computer programs e.g. Education city, maths marvels, top marks. Shape and space- Children will use 2d shapes to make Autumn related pictures. Activities will include making; a hedgehog collage, and leaves. -Circle; square; rectangle and triangle Reception Team: Miss O’Neill, Mrs Ryan and Ms Miller Literacy The literacy focus for this half term will be; Name writing, Letter formation, Sounds, recognising letters in your name. Recreating stories, Retelling, predicting and discussing stories. Drama: Using role play area to re -enact familiar scenes and from stories we are reading.  Children will begin to use imagination to Write and verbalise stories and short scenes.    Phonics: Children are following the read write inc program. We will be holding a phonics meeting for all parents to introduce them to how we teach phonics. Reception Autumn 1 Our world Science Our science topic for this half term will be our bodies! We will be learning; To name all body parts Understand our senses and what they are used for Explore different tastes, smells etc. Knowledge and understanding of the world: . Celebrating our cultures – children to talk about their origin, use a map to locate country of origin and share similarities and differences.

Parents evening Wednesday 18th October. ICT Developing ICT skills, learning rules of use, care of equipment. Introduction to Lexia programme. Upcoming Events: Parents evening Wednesday 18th October. Music Children will listen to different types of music and finding the beat. They will experiment with movement and sound. They will use body percussion in songs and make instruments using recycled materials. Games/P.E Children work on the three core fundamental skills of; agility, balance and coordination. Explore positional language to use the equipment safely. Parachute games. Team games: Working together in small groups. Throwing, catching and kicking skills. Developing independence in managing their own clothes, i.e. buttoning and unbuttoning cardigans, tying laces, doing up their coats. Dressing and undressing for P.E. P.E will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Attendance Please ensure that your child is in school, ready in the line at 8:55. Children must not be left unaccompanied until the teacher comes to collect the class from the playground. Please pick up children promptly at 3:15pm. Personal, social and Emotional Development: Taking responsibility for their own belongings. Understand and follow the rules during circle/carpet time. Discussing who is your friend and why? What is a good friend? Talk about school rules- Why are they important? Why do we have to follow them? Looking after our environment Taking turns and being patient. Develop their decision making and show an increase awareness of taking turns at activities- using task board effectively. Encourage independence during class day Creative Development Role play with other children Acting out stories Leaf rubbing Nature plates Exploring natural materials. Using leaves to create autumn cards/ collages Mixing colours and using colours in the environment to make a sensory picture. Ways to help your child at home Ensure that your child goes to bed at a reasonable time. Aim to read with your child a minimum of 3 times a week and comment in their diary. Recognise numbers in everyday life e.g what’s our door number? Practise writing your child’s name with them. R.E What makes us special? Homework Homework is handed out on a Friday. Homework is to be completed and handed back to Mrs Ryan on a Wednesday morning to ensure it can be corrected in time for Friday.
