LESSON 11

? LESSON 11 STARTER Can you match each Sensor with one or more Sensor task: Do you remember the sensors shown and can you consider them in another context? ? Can you match each Sensor with one or more parts of the human body sensory systems

DESIGN CHALLENGE Learning objective: Create a new and unique product solution using a range of sensors, control programming and application of CAD software. Build and program a robot - The final challenge…. you have all the sensors to choose from and you need to select as many as you think you need to complete the task. Scenario: You are in charge of a new major hospital that takes patients to and from operating theatres automatically. The robot starts in the ward carrying a patient, it then has to navigate through the ward avoiding any obstacles to get to the exit, through the exit it travels down a short corridor to 2 operating theatres, one with a ‘black line’ going into it and one with a ‘Red line’. Program the robot to get the patient to the Black Line follower operating theatre without dropping the patient. Extension task: Rewrite your program to allow the robot to take the patient to the ‘Red line follower’ operating theatre.

DESIGN CHALLENGE Design your own hospital corridor and theatre scenario Using these common features, design your corridor, obstacles, and theatre, and remember to include the colour lines on the ground. The patient bed to be pushed or pulled by the robot through the hospital corridor.

DESIGN CHALLENGE Solution Video Watch the video below to see a working outcome. Here is a screen shot of part of the red line program that will achieve it. Copy this onto the program sheet. Red line Hospital challenge outcome video Black line Hospital challenge outcome video

LESSON 11 PLENARY Over the past couple of lessons you have used a range of sensors in different challenges and scenario’s Create a new scenario and describe it in detail. Consider what the solution is using sensors, and then challenge a peer to come up with a solution. Remember to keep your answer secret.

SUMMARY Today you have: Learning objective: Create a new and unique product solution using a range of sensors, control programming and application of CAD software. Today you have: Worked in challenging circumstances with tough time constraints to achieve a product solution. Applied your skills and knowledge of robotics to a robot design task. Communicated with peers and worked dynamically towards a common goal.
