Exiled The Porfiriato (1876-1911) #1 Porfirio Diaz Pan O Palo #1 Porfirio Diaz Pres who industrializes Mexico by encouraging foreign investment (esp. US) Helps rich & church, little to help poor & Indians Becomes a dictator by fixing election Exiled 1910: Has his opponent for the presidency Francisco Madero jailed! Madero escapes & starts Mexican Revolution. 1911: Madero helped by Emiliano Zapata & Pancho Villa, Diaz overthrown & goes into exile VQ1: What were Villa’s tactics? VQ2: Why was it tough for revolutionaries & how did they survive? VQ3: What problems happen after Diaz is overthrown?
