Plotting the course to 5G – Leading Carrier 5G Scott F. Migaldi September 2017

TMUS 5G Program – Years in the making with key partners 5G Vision Approach Enhanced Mobile Broadband Traffic growth Gbps speeds Virtual Reality Augmented Reality Smart City 5G Development Partners Massive IoT Industrial Automation, eHealth, V2X Massive Connectivity Critical Communications T-Mobile Restricted

Key learnings so far Technology mmWave RF Spectrum Use Cases 5G Key Technologies, e.g. beamforming and massive MIMO work Standards are moving towards completion mmWave spectrum has different physical properties Paradigm shift in planning Starting with new spectrum makes sense All spectrum is 5G spectrum One network, multiple use cases Coverage matters 5G is needed across multiple spectrum bands to support multiple use cases T-Mobile Restricted

Our Deployment approach Use 600MHz spectrum for nationwide 5G coverage Use our mmWave spectrum in traffic hotspots Evolve other spectrum bands to 5G as needed Starting with 600MHz mmW in Urban Hotspots Foundational Coverage and Capacity Dense Urban Suburban Rural

Why 600MHz for 5G? 1 2 3 4 New Spectrum is the Launchpad Historically, new technology has always been launched on new spectrum; low band is the only practical way to achieve a wide area network New Spectrum is the Launchpad 1 5G is also about coverage; Not just high bandwidth Wide area coverage enables key 5G uses cases like Massive Machine Type Communication and Mission Critical Control. These use cases do NOT require large bandwidths 2 Efficient use of spectrum resources 3 5G NR is more efficient than LTE and will continue to evolve as research and development focus shifts to 5G technologies One band, two technologies 4 5G technology will seamlessly interoperate and complement LTE, NR and LTE together forming a 5G network

5G mobile experience with ONE NETWORK MULTIPLE USE CASES BEST MOBILE EXPERIENCE T-Mobile is the first company to commit to building a nationwide 5G network
