That’s why readability and brevity are important.

If you can, apply for a specific position. Research the company and find out what positions they’re hiring for—it make their job a bit easier trying to figure out what position to interview you for. If you’re not sure what position you’re applying for or are going for multiple positions, then just put a general objective, but be concise.

Where you went to school or currently studying, the degree you’re pursuing and major. If you have any honors, you can list them here too. Here’s a big question: Do you have to include your GPA on your resume? Companies will want to see it. If you don’t present it, we assume it’s less than a 2.8. If you do present the GPA, designate a scale to it i.e. 3.2/4.0. Encourage the audience not to use GPA in major alone as it’s misleading and begs the question “How bad is the overall?”

Hands up if you’ve professional experience This section is very important as it’s where we’ll look to try and correlate past experience with what we’re looking for. If we have to reach too much we won’t bite. Company’s look for leaders, team players, challenge seekers, enthusiasts and self starters. Assure us that you can work with others. Ask those with professional experience to raise their hands (5% might). Stress that as a fresh out we know you don’t have experience but we’re interested in your past as indicators for the future.

Advise that it’s acceptable to say “Referances available upon request” but if they include them then they must be sure to keep the number down and that there is diversity.
