Solar-Interplanetary energetic particle events ● Space observations and data analysis - Solar wind plasma, interplanetary magnetic field, energetic particles, related solar activity. - WIND, ACE, SOHO, ISEE-3, Ulysses, IMPs, GOES, HELIOS, etc. ● Modeling energetic (gradual protons, impulsive electrons) events - Particle transport in interplanetary space: Numerical resolution and Monte Carlo applications - 2D magnetohydrodinamic modeling of interplanetary (ICME) shocks ● Space Weather applications - The tool SOLPENCO (Solar Particle Engineering Code) Provide the capability to quantitatively and rapidly predict upstream particle fluxes and fluences generated by shocks. - Under development: SOLPENCO2 code within ESA’s SEPEM Project
Univ. of Málaga asset: UMA SEP Forecaster Characteristics of the UMA SEP forecaster: Real-time prediction of the onset and intensity of the prompt component (first hours) of well-connected SEPs (wcSEPs). Based on the estimation of the magnetic connectivity, which is deduced by correlating X-ray and Proton data at 1 AU. Real-time source: 5 min. data from the available GOES satellites. Servers downloading 5 min. forecasts: SEIS (2007), ESWP (nov. 2009) Evaluation (solar cycles 22 and 23): Probability of wcSEP prediction: 84% Missed wcSEP rate: 16% False alarm rate: 45% Max. warning time: 6:10 hours Intensity RMSError: 0.58 (log. scale) UMA SEP forecaster output: http://spaceweather.uma.es/forecastpanel.htm A forecast of a well-connected SEP
