Acid/Base Reactions When mixing an acid and a base, atoms in compounds can recombine to form new compounds. One of the most famous is an acid and sodium bicarbonate. This reaction releases a gas, causing the combined solution to “foam” or “fizz.”

Experiment In pairs, you must design an experiment that either tests: how the chemicals change from before to after the reaction, or… that tests how changes to the environment affect the reaction.
