The Tea Act 1773 Tax on tea still remained British East India Company  top company for tea India  Britain  North America Boycott of tea hurt company Act lowered price of tea, and it would ship directly to North America, but still pay tax on tea Colonies didn’t like this, because it made a monopoly of selling tea. Hurt merchants who smuggled in Dutch Tea

Boston Tea Party Sons of Liberty Traveled to port cities to stop East India Co. Tea was not unloaded in NY, Philly, and others Boston Gov. made sure it would be unloaded, but people were upset Men disguised as Native Americans threw 342 cases of tea into harbor  lots of $$!!

First Continental Congress 12 out of 13 colonies sent delegates to discuss what to do next Among them were John Adams, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, and George Washington Demanded appeal to Intolerable Acts

Shot Heard Round the World! Britain said NO to repeal  decided to use force Colonists started training new militia soldiers called minutemen Mass. Gov. (Gen. Thomas Gage) sent troops to Concord, MA to seize arms and colonial leaders for British When the troops left, Patriots Paul Revere & William Dawes sent word to minutemen (British are coming!) Gage ordered minutemen to go home  NO!  Shots fired!  Becomes first shot of American Revolution
