HOW TO MAKE AN “A” ON YOUR MAP

Always Read & Follow Map Directions Political colors: color countries that touch/border each other in different colors. (No “light” green next to “lime” green, etc.) Outline the country and color about ¼ “ around the edge. If you must color in the entire country, color lightly so you can still label. For special purpose maps- follow specific directions given.

Use Neat Lettering 1. Always print. 2. Use pencil first- label with a ball point pen or a pen that doesn’t bleed through. 3. If I can’t read it, it is wrong. Neatness counts.

Only Water Should be Colored Blue. Shade the coastline in blue using a ¼ inch border on both physical and political map. Rivers are drawn with a blue line. Label in blue.

Use Map Symbols Correctly Use a red dot for cities. Use a red star for a nations capital. Label cities and capitals in red Color mtns brown. Label landfomrs black Copy symbols from the legend on the wall. Make a legend box that includes all the TODALSIGS you used. All water is colored and labeled blue.

In the legend……………………. Draw a correct compass (orientation) Name Symbols used on the map When in doubt, put it in the legend.

Helpful Hints When coloring, color around the place name labels so they will show up. Use colored/map pencils only! Color in one direction only! Neatness counts.

Basic instructions for 8th Continent Draw a “themed” continent including the items listed on the instruction sheet. Draw twelve physical features. A mix of those on the list. At least five countries with a capital and extra city in each country. NAME ALL FEATURES (CITIES, MOUNTAINS, RIVERS, ETC…) Use TODALSS2 on your map. Don’t forget the legend. Follow instructions on how to color the map.
