By Khushi, Evie, Abbie and Eva Mars soil experiment By Khushi, Evie, Abbie and Eva

Introduction We did three experiments with three different samples of soil. Sample A, sample B and sample C. We did three experiments to see which sample is most likely to be Mars soil. Mars soil is reddish brown colour, feels like talc or flour, has different particle sizes, it contains salt, lets water pass through quickly and lastly it might be acidic or not.

Red-brown colour The first experiment we did was to see what colours are in mars soil and what we had to do was to look at the soil and see which one was most likely to have a browny red colour. On our recording sheet we found A,B and C were all reddish brown.

Did it feel like talc or flour? Our next experiment was the feeling of Mars soil so we felt all three of the samples. Sample A did not feel like talc or flour. B and C did feel like talc and flour. We did this experiment because we needed to estimate which one we thought was closest to Mars soil.

Range of particle sizes In our next experiment we tried to find lots of little or big particle sizes in the soil all we did for this experiment was to feel the soil and see if we could feel any hard soil that felt like rocks. All the particle sizes were a range of mixed up sizes so they were all different.
