Welcome to Kindergarten Parent Information Night We are so glad you are here!

Attendance First bell rings at 7:30 Arrive as early as 7:00 Your child should be through the double doors by 7:45, or they will be counted tardy. Tardiness effects perfect attendance and morning routine Absence – a note from home or doctor’s office is required upon returning to school

Tardy Consequences 1st Tardy Warning 2nd Tardy Eat lunch Alone 3rd Tardy Sit out at recess 4th Tardy after school detention 2:45-3:30 and parents must provide transportation home. 5th Meeting with Administrator Tardies start over every 9 weeks

Homework Reading – read 20 minutes each night (you and/or child) and do assignment for the night. Sight Words – practice sight words we have learned Math – activities will be posted in newsletters Homework sheet -Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday. Parent’s must initial/signature is required per day. No Homework-Can not be on Gold that day. 5 times no homework will result in completing assignment during stations.

Awards Earned each nine weeks Perfect attendance Citizenship No absences and only 1 tardy Citizenship Outstanding Student The student has to be on reading level or above for the 9 weeks. (attendance, tardiness—2 tardies take away perfect attendance, and grades are part of the criteria in determining awards)

Husky Bucks/Shopping Children will earn husky bucks throughout the week. Earned for various things such as: appropriate behavior, following rules/directions, working, etc… Husky bucks can be taken away for unacceptable behavior. Children will spend the husky bucks on Friday.(treasure box, eating in the room, reading to another class, stinky feet, homework pass etc…) Any donations for items for treasure box will be greatly appreciated. Items such as party favors/no candy or food (bouncy balls, pencils, rings, cars, bubbles, etc…) Thank you in advance for your support. Your child will receive husky bucks for donating items to the treasure box.

Snacks Working snack time Small healthy snack daily No candy, drinks, dairy items or snacks that require utensils Water bottles may be brought for snack and water break times. NO JUICE.

Lunch 30 minutes:10:35-11:05 or 10:40-11:10 Purchase from cafeteria or bring ready to eat lunch Children need to learn their lunch number. Cost: breakfast $1.15 and lunch is $1.80 Parents may eat with their child after the 1st week of school. Limited seating. Parents may need to stand After a child owes $15.00, a cold cheese sandwich and milk will be served and the charge will be .50cents. Milk is the beverage at lunch.

Specials P.E., Music, Art 50 minutes every day Tennis Shoes are required for P.E. (tennis shoes may be left in your child’s backpack) Music, Art, P.E. give their own behavior grades.

Birthdays Allowed -    Store bought cupcakes/cookies are allowed and will be eaten the last 10 minutes of class before dismissal.  Not allowed – invitations cannot be handed out, gifts, balloons, party favors, treat bags, etc. Birthday Sign up List for addresses of students.

Daily Folder Conduct Report (Behavior Chart) Initial daily Use this folder to send notes to teacher in protective sleeve Homework will be sent home and returned to school in this folder. Clean out old homework pages

Uniform Dress Code Students are required to wear uniform dress at Hubenak Elementary White, navy blue, light blue, black or red solid color collared shirt/blouse or school T-shirt, husky school shirts Khaki, navy blue, black or blue denim jeans, pants, capris, shorts, skirts, skorts (split skirts), or jumpers No commercial print or logos Sweaters, jackets, hoodies, or other tops intended to be worn in the building must be solid white, navy blue, light blue, red, black, or an approved Hubenak item Solid denim jackets are allowed.

Bus information found on pages 37-39 of the handbook. Students are prohibited from engaging in activities that are against the bus safety rules:   a.  Students should observe the same rules of conduct while riding the bus as they do in the classroom.   b.  Students are prohibited from directing profanity, vulgar language, or obscene gestures toward bus drivers or other students on the bus, passengers in cars or pedestrians outside the bus.   c.  Bus drivers are authorized to assign or reassign seats as needed.   d.  Get to your bus stop three to five minutes early.   e.  Stand back from the edge of the road or curb because the bus is required to pull over on the side of the roadway.   f.  Loading and unloading procedures:    • Stand at least five feet back from the bus stop to avoid accidents.  • Watch your step, step on and off quickly, quietly, without crowding or pushing.  • Do not play at bus stops. Watch traffic at all times.  • Move away from the bus as soon as you exit to avoid falling under the wheels.    Be seated before the bus begins to move.  REMAIN SEATED AT ALL TIMES WHILE THE BUS IS IN MOTION. h.  Keep your head, arms, elbows and any objects out of the window.  Never throw anything out of the bus window.  

HUBENAK’s Traffic Flow Pattern

PTA PTA supports the school, teachers and children by arranging volunteers, purchasing recess equipment, holding special assemblies, providing fieldtrips at no cost to students and much more. Please join PTA. If you join, you and your family get early admittance into events sponsored by PTA. Joining PTA does NOT mean you have to participate or volunteer in any function/meeting. Folders were handed out with a lot of information from PTA.

Volunteer Breakfast Will you attend our annual  Parent Involvement Breakfast? Hubenak Cafeteria     Come find out more about the many opportunities for you to get involved in your child’s education through volunteering at Hubenak and enjoy a yummy breakfast while you’re here! This is also a great chance to meet other parents and make connections! Some topics to be covered include:  Room Moms  Library Volunteers  Workroom Volunteers  Brown Bag (Take Home Project) Volunteers  Committees (Spring Carnival, Yearbook, Box Tops, Spirit Wear, etc.)  DADS GROUP  YOUR questions

Extras 2 Transportation tags stay on the backpack all year. Accidents happen – please keep a change of clothing in your child’s backpack Please label child’s clothing, jacket’s, sweaters, lunchboxes and backpacks. Please work with your child on tying their shoes Rolling backpacks are not allowed Newsletters will be emailed out weekly.
