Let’s write Write about what your read. This week’s warm up sheet will be collected Friday. Go beyond a summary--respond!

Take two minutes to review your stems or quiz a partner. Stem Review Take two minutes to review your stems or quiz a partner.

Exit Ticket from yesterday Identify the conflict in “Three Little Pigs” Is this INTERNAL or EXTERNAL? What is the CLIMAX of “The Three Little Pigs”? How can you determine the climax?

AOTW We will continue our AOTW process today. There are two parts: annotations and response. Today you will do a second read with a partner. As you read, write guesses of the meaning of the words you marked yesterday. Lastly, look up any words you need to (those you cannot figure out or need to be more sure about)

Making an Inference--a logical guess based on clues from the text What the text says What I know about life/people Inference (logical guess)

Go get a red textbook from under your desk Turn to page 37

As we read... We will work on this skill as we read, as well as look at the plot and conflict development. Clues from text Prior Knowledge (what I know about life/people) Inference (I can guess that…) “I don’t have much work to do...All I have to do is mind my brother Raymond, which is enough.” Work means something that takes effort. “Minding” must mean looking after, not listening to. It must be hard work because she says it is “enough” to have to do.

As we read... We will work on this skill as we read, as well as look at the plot and conflict development. Clues from text Prior Knowledge (what I know about life/people) Inference (I can guess that…) Squeaky keeps Raymond close to the buildings. When Raymond gets wet, Squeaky gets hit when she gets home. I do not like to get hit. I will try to avoid getting hit. Squeaky keeps her brother safe so she will not get in trouble.

Continue reading with a partner--just a partner!! Use the margin questions to guide your reading and thinking. Make at least two more inferences with your partner. Be ready to share!

Exit Ticket Miya came out of the bathroom with tears in her eyes. She ran down to the cafeteria and asked the staff if they had any rice. Fortunately for Miya, Ms. Lucille did. Ms. Lucille filled a red plastic cup about halfway with white rice grains and handed it to Miya. Miya pulled a damp phone from out of her back pocket and pushed it into the dry rice grains inside of the plastic cup. She sincerely thanked Ms. Lucille and then went back to class. She felt relieved, but she was still a little worried. 1. Why is Miya upset at the beginning of the passage? 2. Why does Miya put her phone in the cup of rice? 3. Why is Miya relieved but still worried at the end of the text?
