NOHS Scheduling Information 2017-2018

Graduation Requirements ***Review your Transcript for the following!*** English (4) Math (4) You must take a math each year. You must have Algebra I, Geometry & Algebra II Social Studies (3) Must complete US History, World History and Government Science (3) Biology, Chemistry & Physics Health/PE (1) Fit for Life Application Humanities (1) Electives (6) Graduation Requirements 22 Credits Required

NEW COURSE INFO! Science: **Refer to Course Guidebook Online for all Pre-Requisites and Course Descriptions** Science: Advanced Topics in Physics (AP Physics C is a Pre-Req) CHEM 105/106 (10th graders – no more Honors Chem. Must be concurrently enrolled in Alg. II or have taken it prior) Engineering Design Methods (Bio/AP Bio is a pre-req) Math: Discrete Mathematics (AP Calculus AB or Calculus is a pre- req. Also can be taken concurrently with a calc course) Probability w/Calculus (AP Calculus AB or Calculus is a pre. Req. Also can be taken concurrently with a calc. course.) SPM 200/Sports Analytics (2 credits, 1 is math. Seniors only) FIN 161 – Personal Finance (Seniors Only) Math for Business – NO LONGER OFFERED. English: Into the Pensive (11th and 12th only) AP Research/Hon. Eng IV (now 1 credit, not 2) Electives: Design Thinking (11th and 12th only) Women’s SSA Choir (Auditioned choir) SPA 101 (Spanish 3) Dual Credit (current Spanish II students only) AP Spanish (SPA 101 and SPA 102) (current Spanish III students only – 18 on ACT is required before enrolling in the course) CHEM 105/106 & 107/108 (Must have completed Chem/Honors Chem. prior to this course) EDU 250 Teacher Leadership (Seniors Only) LEAD 200 (Seniors Only) Latin & Chinese online are now dual credit (18 on ACT required) A.P. Research and Honors English IV will count as 2 credits. From student perspective, it will look similar to Health and PE. Students will have listed 7 courses in a 6 period day. All new courses will be presenting at Preview Day On March 6th! Pay attention to schedule!

Scheduling Information Schedule Card You are receiving a schedule card that you will use as a reference for when you online schedule. Parent and Student signature required. You will be placed in a Math, Science and English class based on your current teacher’s recommendation on IC. Pay attention to the online course guidebook for information regarding specific course descriptions, pre- requisites, etc. CURRENT JUNIORS CURRENT FRESHMEN CURRENT SOPHOMORES Sign up for an English & Math Up to 4 Electives Make sure your Health/PE & Humanities are already finished. If not, you will HAVE to take those your senior year. Sign up for an English, Math, US History & Chemistry No teacher rec. on card needed anymore. Consider Foreign Lang. Sign up for an English, Math, Gov & Physics 2 Electives

AP and Dual Credit Information Next year, we will be offering both AP courses and Dual Credit Courses here at school. Things to know: AP Courses and Dual Credit Courses are weighted All of these courses require an AP/Dual Credit Application One Application is required for each AP course you are requesting Applications can be found on our Counseling Webpage Applications are due Monday, March 13th to the current content teacher.

ZERO HOUR Courses meet before school from 7:40-8:40am. COURSES OFFERED for ZERO HOUR: AP US History AP Psych AP Gov AP Human AP Economics Government AP Literature AP Stats Pre-Calculus AP 3-D Art 3-D Art Spanish I Spanish II SPM 200/Sports Analytics FIN 161 (Personal Finance) Courses meet before school from 7:40-8:40am. If interested in a zero hour course, please indicate that on your schedule card. You can only sign up for ONE zero hour course. You will request that specific zero hour course when scheduling online in the computer lab. Please see your schedule card for every course that is offered. There is a chance that a zero hour course may not happen. If that is the case, you will be placed in the regular schedule for that class.

Online Scheduling YOU will be entering your course requests online, through your student portal account. Info you will need: Student ID Number and Password How do I sign up classes? Your current science, math and English teachers will be discussing how they are going to recommend you for your next class. You will see what you have been recommended for when you come into the lab. If you wish to be in a higher level course that you were NOT recommended for, please talk to your teacher. If you wish to NOT be in the higher level course that you were recommended for, let your counselor know and we can change it. Students will be doing this during their Social Studies class. Please refer to spreadsheet of dates for more info.

Broadcast Journalism Application LEAD 200 Application CBE Study Skills (Peer Tutor) Application Co-Op Application Peer Mentor Application (Jr.’s & Sr.’s Only) Yearbook Application AIDE Contract** (Seniors interested in being an aide must work that out with a teacher. When you come into the lab, you must have your contract with you with your signature and teacher signature. Otherwise, you won’t get to be an aide.)

Arvin Center Information Automotive (11th grade preferred. Optional 10th and 12th. NEW! 2nd year Automotive will be at JCTC taking all classes there. Biomedical (9th grade preferred. Optional 10th grade. Culinary (10th grade preferred. 11th and 12th grade optional) NEW! Seniors may go to JCTC. See guidebook for more information. Engineering (9th grade preferred. Optional 10th) Information Technology -Computer Science (9TH grade preferred. 10th grade optional. Junior Guard (10th grade. Optional 11th/12th grade) Nursing (11th and 12th grade) 2nd Year students will be at JCTC taking all classes there. Sports Medicine (11th Grade) Friday, March 3rd from 10:30-11am, Matt Watkins will be here to talk to interested students. Please stop by café if interested! Arvin Center Course Guidebook Field Trip: March 8th at 8:45am Must take a permission slip and turn it in by Friday, March 3rd to the counseling office. Must be in good academic standing. First come, first serve! Note: Courses at Arvin do take up two periods of your day (either 1st and 2nd or 5th and 6th) Application required for all Arvin Center students. This includes current and new students.

University of Louisville Dual Credit *SENIORS ONLY* Requirements Application At least a 22 Composite on your ACT 25 Composite in Math (if you are close, talk to your counselor. You may still want to apply) One 3 hour College Course = 1 High School Credit “Dual Enrolled” Can still participate in high school events All courses will be taken at U of L Classes are weighted Spring Presentation with Mr. Deaves More information will be in announcements Please sign up for more information Can earn up to 30 college credits Credits can transfer to different colleges upon completion. Tuition Information This year: $54/credit hour or $156/class plus books and miscellaneous fees KHEEA assists in paying for 2 classes if you are a senior.

Important Dates: Schedule Cards: Due to your English teacher by March 13th. You will bring these back into the lab with you on your scheduled time. Green Enrollment Cards and Orange Transportation Sheets: Due to your 1st Period Teacher by Monday, March 17th AP/Dual Credit Applications: Due March 13th to your CURRENT teacher. Other Class Applications: Due March 13th due to respected teacher/counselor Arvin Center Field Trip: You must fill out a permission form and have it turned in by Friday, March 3rd to the Counseling Office!!

Completing your ILP ILP Cards You have until March 16th to complete your ILP to 100%. Begin working on them now on your own.

SCHEDULE PREVIEW DAY – MAY 26th You will get a copy of your TENTATIVE schedule on Schedule Preview Day. If there is something you would like changed, please notify us on Schedule Preview Day by writing it on the bottom of your schedule. Your schedule CAN CHANGE over the summer due to teacher changes, adding new sections, balancing class sizes, etc. Last day to drop a class: JUNE 8th Student/parent requests for specific teachers, class periods, lunch periods, etc. WILL NOT BE GRANTED. You will get your finalized updated schedule posted on Infinite Campus prior to registration.
