From Slavery to Freedom Moses & the Exodus From Slavery to Freedom

Aim: How did God help his chosen people escape to freedom? Engage Questions: Who is enslaved by the Egyptians? Who did God choose to lead his people to freedom?

Moses He is known for leading the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt to Sinai where he mediated the law covenant between Yahweh & Israel. Moses, an Israelite who has been raised as an Egyptian prince, encounters the God of his true people.

Yahweh the sacred name of Israel’s God, in Hebrew which means “I am who I am.” This name implies Yahweh is the maker of events & shaper of history.

The Ten Plagues Moses confronts the stubborn Pharaoh about freeing the Israelite slaves. "Let my people go." 10 plagues set upon the Egyptians, & finally Moses & the Israelites are able to escape through the Sea of Reeds into the desert, where Yahweh sustains them with food & water.

Aim: What is the Exodus? What did God give Moses to help his people?

Exodus “a going out” or “departure.” It refers to the escape of Israelite slaves from Egypt under Moses’ leadership.

Passover The Exodus is recalled every year at Passover. It is the central story of God’s saving love for Israel. an annual Jewish observance commemorating Israel’s last night of slavery in Egypt. It is when the Angel of Death “passed over” Israelite homes marked with the blood of a sacrificial lamb to destroy the first born male of every Egyptian household.

Mosaic Law Yahweh promised the Israelites divine faithfulness & love, so when they reached Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. the set of 10 religious & moral laws Yahweh inscribed on stone tablets & gave Moses.

What are the Ten Commandments?
