Faith – Finding the New

Faith – Finding the New Hebrews 11:24-28 24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.

Faith – Finding the New Hebrews 11:24-28 Moses – a model of faith Prayers were powerful Words were awe-inspiring Contribution to the world is indisputable

Faith – Finding the New Deuteronomy 34:10-12 10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

Moses’ journey to newness Faith – Finding the New Moses’ journey to newness 3 distinct divisions of Moses life First 40 years – Prince of Egypt Middle 40 years – Shepherd in the desert Last 40 years – Deliverer of God’s people

Moses chose a new identity Faith – Finding the New Moses chose a new identity He felt the stirring of the Spirit of God God was calling him to something better He chose to suffer oppression rather than experience temporary happiness and enjoyment of sin

Moses chose a new identity Faith – Finding the New Moses chose a new identity This is same decision we face every day as followers of Jesus Christ. None of us can effectively serve two masters Jesus challenges us to a radical faith that trusts Him to be more than enough.

Faith – Finding the New Luke 12:29-34 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. 32“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Moses had everything a man of his day could want Faith – Finding the New Moses had everything a man of his day could want And yet, he recognized that something was missing. Only through faith can we recognize the reality of heaven. Only through faith can we follow Moses and gain a new Identity as a lover of the Father.

Moses’ faith led him to a new God Faith – Finding the New Moses’ faith led him to a new God Moses was taught to worship his step grandfather He thought he could achieve great things by his own strength, killing the bully slave master. He simply traded one god for another.

Faith – Finding the New Exodus 3:1-10 1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

Faith – Finding the New Exodus 3:1-10 4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” 5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father, a the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

Faith – Finding the New Exodus 3:1-10 7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites

Faith – Finding the New Exodus 3:1-10 9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

Faith – Finding the New Jeremiah 29:13-14 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
