Chaperoning 101
What to expect … At all times the Royals are under the direction of the Director of Bands Prior to events, a chaperoning sign-up list will be posted, without chaperones these events are not possible Chaperoning is an integral part of all Royals blocking camps, performances and over night trips
How to volunteer… Complete criminal and vulnerable sector checks for all chaperones,social services check for overnight trips and submit to Chaperone Coodinator Complete and submit to Chaperone coordinator Use the website to sign up
Concert Season Our primary role is to supervise all members of the band and colour guard Provide assistance to members in need Assist with equipment when required
Blocking Camps Provide assistance to any members Put out snack Provide first aid as required Contact parents if a member is ill or injured
What to Wear for performance chaperones: Winter Black pants Black shoes and socks White, red or black shirt (or chaperone shirt) Travel Jacket Spring/Summer Black pants, capris or long shorts Black shoes and/or socks, black sandals
Parade Season Travel with the band to the parade Be available on parade route, if member requires assistance At no time are chaperones permitted to march alongside the band, they are to be unobtrusive Provide first aid Assist with equipment
Field Show Season Travel with members to Field Show performances Similar to Parade Season (first aid, etc.) Assist with moving Pit on and off the field Assist with equipment
Overnight Camps and Trips Chaperones are expected to: monitor cleanliness of washrooms, showers, sleeping areas etc. assist with general clean up coordinate with the Chaperone Coordinator and Director Assist Equipment Coordinator and Uniform Coordinator as required consult with the Director of Bands or his designate regarding any disciplinary infractions by band members provide assistance to any member experiencing difficulty
Chaperoning is an awesome way to interact with the members and meet new parents. Your assistance is required, don’t be shy! When you are chaperoning, you are a parent to all members.
