Ch. 20: Peoples and Cultures of Africa We will focus on recent artistic periods and the conflicts in cultural values.

Key concepts, works, and terms For each of the following take notes on the key information about each Saiyid Abdallah (Kenya) and his poem “Self-Examination” Leopold Senghor (Senegal) and his concept called “Negritude” Thomas Mofolo (South Africa) and his novel Chaka Chinua Achebe (pronounced CHIN-wah ah-CHAY-bay) (Nigeria) and his novel No Longer at Ease (also write two or three sentences that summarize Chapter 1.) The role of the arts in traditional African cultures
