Women & Infants Sexual Assault Research and Awareness Team: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Mission of the Team To Provide and Promote: Research Education Prevention Awareness Throughout the Hospital, Community, and State

Did you know? Women and Infants’ Triage cares for approx. 110 sexual assault patients each year This averages a patient coming in every 3 days Only 30% of women report a sexual assault Provides patients with care by SANE Nurses (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) Offers follow-up care for patients

Community Information & Resources Potential patients need to have resources available update the W&I website

Hospital & Community Engagement October-Domestic Violence Awareness Month Clothing drive benefitted sexual assault patients seen at the W&I Triage Self-defense classes were offered by Mastery Martial Arts

What’s Next? Continue to work on website development Create a Sexual Assault Response and Support Team (i.e. SANE nurse, chaplain, social worker, researcher) Partner with a retailer to provide women’s clothing for sexual assault patients Host education and awareness events annually Foster research opportunities that will translate into better clinical practice Collaborate with the IPV (Intimate Partner Violence) Task Force and the RI Sexual Assault Task Force
