By 1899  Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Philippines …once the US controlled the lands from Atlantic to Pacific, we began to look outside of our borders By 1899  Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Philippines 1914  Panama Canal Zone 1917  Entrance into World War One shows the US considers itself equal to European powers
