What is a volcano? An opening in the crust of the earth that produces hot, liquid magma, ash, and gas. Magma is derived from partially melted rocks from subduction zones or mantle plumes.
Where do Volcanoes Occur? Convergent boundaries: convergent oceanic-continental and convergent oceanic-oceanic. Divergent boundaries: rift valleys and mid-ocean ridges. Intraplate Volcanism: occurring in areas within the plate due to hot spots found under the continents. Ex. Yellowstone and Hawaii.
