CPT James P. Panas (KIA) Chemical Hall of Fame 2004 Received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and one out of only eight Distinguished Service Crosses awarded to Chemical Corps soldiers during World War II. A Company 81st Chemical Mortar Battalion: Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Company Commander (1944) Considered the most courageous and decorated individual in the battalion.
